Taking stock of the massive staircase on "Game of Thrones"

"Game of Thrones", which is based on a popular book series by George R.R. Martin, takes place in the fictional world of Westeros, where there are seven kingdoms all at war to gain control of more lands and unite the realm.

The northern border of Westeros is a massive wall made of ice separating the settled world from the frozen wilderness that lies above it. Much of the action in the books and on the show takes place at or beyond the wall, where a special order of civil servants called The Night's Watch is charged with protecting this boarder 300 mile border from the dangers on the other side.

Though there are 19 castles along the wall altogether, the action on the show takes place mostly around castle black, where there is a staircase that members of the Night's Watch, sometimes called Crows, can use to get from one side of it to another. With the wall being nearly 700 feet high, that would be a staircase of more than 1,000 steps, depending on the height of the rise.

Of course, this fictional staircase on "Game of Thrones" is made of ice and is intentionally treacherous to climb. Therefore, it lacks any of the stair parts that help to make these structures in your home safe and easy to climb.

Glass staircases have been recommended on popular home decor site Houzz as a way to try to mimic this mythical set of steps. Would you incorporate a structure like this into your home?
