Staircases are so cool they sometimes make it into famous song lyrics. Here are just a few of our favorite songs that include staircases in the title or lyrics.
Perhaps the most famous song talking about a stairway is Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin. Although rated among the greatest rock songs of all time, Stairway to Heaven took a couple years after being released to reach mass popularity. Everyone has their own interpretations about the meaning behind the lyrics to Stairway to Heaven, but the song has been played on the radio, at weddings, funerals, and even used as prom themes.
Although not nearly as recognizable as Stairway to Heaven, Halfway Down the Stairs is an adorable song from The Muppet Show in 1977. The song was originally a poem by A.A. Milne and was set to music by Harold Fraser-Simpson.
Gonna Fly Now by Bill Conti is another recognizable song, and although it may not have stairs in the title or lyrics, it was made famous in the well-known Rocky II montage. In the scene from the movie where this song can be heard, Rocky is running through the town and at the very end takes on the 72 stone step entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Needless to say, after Rocky II was released those steps also became famous.
