Remodeling projects can be stressful, but there's no denying the value of buying an older house and fixing it up yourself instead of paying a premium for one that already has all of the amenities you desire. If you've recently moved into a so-called fixer-upper, you might be deciding which parts of the house are easily fixed and which ones will take a major construction project to alter.

One fast and low-impact way to upgrade the finishings in your house is to make some changes to your stair parts. Whether you choose to update your railings with a premium wood or decide to go with a sleeker and more modern aesthetic for the entire structure, you'll have the ability to set the tone for your entire house by rethinking this one segment of it.

But the problem might not even be associated with the steps themselves. Too many homes have unpleasant and narrow staircases with tiny landings that can be hard to walk on. Rather than leave yours like this, consider widening the landing and making the entire structure a little better.

The process of widening a landing doesn't have to be all that difficult, and typically just means bringing it up or down one step or two so that you and the other people in your family can have a little more room.

Updating the staircase in your house can be a low cost way to upgrade your house without spending a lot of money.
