Are You Going in the Right Direction?

Are you going in the right direction?

Are you following a roadmap for your life? Do you know where you are headed? Do you chart your progress periodically to make sure you are not off course? Yesterday, Rev. Craig Clapper used an illustration from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland to make his point. In the story, Alice asks, "Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?" The cat gives the insightful reply, "That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," to which Alice replied, "I don't much care where--" the wise cat responds "Then it doesn't matter which way you go."

If you are going with the flow, and not purposefully living your life according to a master plan, then it really doesn't matter much which way you go. Spiritual truths aside, all of us are a like Alice at times. We just haven't determined where we are going. If you are a general contractor, do you know where you want to be in 2012? Do you want to grow your business? What are you doing today to get there? Framers, do you want to have your own crew? Do you want to develop finish carpentry skills? What are you doing today to attain those goals? Our short term goals are little more than mile markers along life's highway. Check your progress constantly to make sure you are headed in the right direction. No one else can tell you what direction to go. You must figure out where you want to be, and then plot your own course. Without your specific roadmap for life, like Alice, it really doesn't matter which way you go.
