Ensure that you share your stairwell the right way

While the concept of sharing is taught to every child during their early years, it's clear that adults are not always as comfortable with the idea. After all, we work hard for most of our lives so that we can finally take ownership over our personal belongings. Whether it's a house, car or furniture set, it can feel great to have your own possessions.

But sometimes, you are forced to share even as an adult. And if you live in a classic apartment building, the stairs are one of the parts that you will have to get used to sharing. Still there are a few ways that you can really improve the look of this part of your building, even if you're just responsible for the upkeep of your section of the staircase.

Most likely, the landlord is responsible for taking care of the structure and ensuring that it remains in good condition for all who use it, but since the owner of your property may not be there every day, it's in your best interest to check your steps in order to make sure that they are in good condition each time you walk on them.

If you notice a worn tread or broken piece in the balustrade, it's important for safety that you have it replaced right away. Depending on the rules in your building, you might be able to personalize your own landing. Whether you do this by adding a welcome mat or go as far as adding plants to the area or even painting your staircase newels, this can be a wonderful way to brighten up your corner of the stairwell.

Rather than pushing off upkeep responsibilities, if you take responsibility for the part of the staircase that you rely on, you might find that sharing is actually pretty easy.
