Recently we talked about finding and accessing the space underneath your stairs, but now it’s time to start planning what to do with it.

If you are like every other household, extra storage space is much welcomed and appreciated. The space under your stairs is ideal for built in drawers and cabinets. Paint to match your décor and add stylish hardware to finish.

Transform the wall under the stairs into a mini library. Adding shelves and books creates a stylish and functional built-in for storing your favorite literature.

If you have lots of space to work with, consider adding a small bathroom. It may be a small and cozy space but who doesn’t want an extra bathroom?

Creating a recessed alcove allows for a unique space to display one-of-a-kind works of art. For extra depth you can try painting the inside of the alcove a different color.

Turn the space beneath the stairs into the work area you always wanted. Be creative with the design and add decorative pieces to make the custom home office both fun and functional.

Create an additional pantry and store excess kitchen supplies and cookware under the stairs. It may be a little out of the way but it can be a great option for seasonal kitchenware and irregularly used utensils.

Add additional seating for guests with a banquette. If you love to entertain, this is a great way to have extra seating at parties and also functions as a cozy reading nook.

Think outside the box. The space can be used for many purposes. Each household needs and desires different things. Whatever you choose to do with your space is sure to be an eye-catching conversation starter among friends and family.
